
Henry started feuding with the Big Show which eventually led to a three way handicapped match at Night of Champions on July, 29, 2008. The match was between the two challengers Mark Henry and Big Show versus the ECW Champion Kane. Mark Henry ended up winning the match to become the ECW Champion. It was fitting as a couple of days earlier Henry was drafted from Smackdown to ECW during the WWE draft.
On July 20, 2008 at the Great American Bash Mark Henry defended his ECW title against Tommy Dreamer. Mark Henry would now have a new escort to the ring. Former wrestling star Tony Atlas would now escort Mark Henry to the ring.
On August 17, 2008 Mark Henry would defend his ECW title against Matt Hardy. During that match Matt Hardy delivered a Twist of Fate to Mark Henry and looked like he may take the title but Tony Atlas rescued Henry by pulling Matt Hardy off of Henry. Hardy won the match by DQ but Mark Henry was still ECW Champion. Hardy had a rematch for the title a few days later on ECW but once again fell with outside interference from Tony Atlas as mark Henry beat him to retain his championship.
On September 7, 2008 at Unforgiven Mark Henry would lose the title twice in one night in the Championship Scramble, first to Chavo Guerrero and secondly to Finlay. Matt Hardy ended the match as the new official ECW champion.
On October 5, 2008 at No Mercy Mark Henry had another shot to reclaim the ECW Championship but came up short as Matt Hardy hit the Twist of Fate on Mark Henry and then the win.
On November 23, 2008 Henry was part of team Orton as they battled team Batista. Mark Henry was eliminated but his team did win the match.
On April 5th, 2009 Mark Henry competed at Wrestlemania 25 in a 8 man Money in the Bank matchup. Unfortunately for Mark Henry he did not succeed in winning the match as CM Punk won the MITB match for the second year in a row.
On June 29, Henry was traded to the Raw brand, and had his first match that night as the third opponent in a three-on-one gauntlet match against Randy Orton, which he won, turning Henry into a fan favorite in the process.
Mark Henry then began teaming with Hornswoggle and began feuding with Chavo Guerrero. While Hornswoggle continued feuding with Chavo, Henry started teaming up with MVP and started feuding with Chris Jericho and the Big Show.
