Mysterio is always exciting to watch with his high flying act. Rey Mysterio made his wrestling pro debut in 1989 at the age of 14 at a small church in Tijuana, Mexico and spent most of the early part of his career in AAA promotions in Mexico. In 1995 he wrestled for ECW and then in 1996 signed with the WCW.In the summer of 2002 Rey made his WWE debut and his first feud was with Kurt Angle. In 2003 he became the cruiserweight champion and in 2005 he became a tag team champion with the late Eddie Guerrero until Eddie turned on him. Eddie then held a secret that Rey's son was really Eddie's son and was adopted by Rey. They had a match to see who would win custody and Rey won. Since Eddie's real life death Rey has dedicated every match he has to his real life good friend.
In 2006 Rey shocked everyone when he won the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania 22 by beating Kurt Angle and Randy Orton. Chavo and Vickie Guerrero celebrated with him but later would turn on him. He was put out of action for many months by Chavo Guerrero who severely injured his leg by bashing it repeatedly with a steel chair.
At Summerslam of 2007 Rey came back and beat Chavo and has returned to Smackdown and already has taken the number one contender spot for the current heavyweight champion Khali's belt. Rey then started feuding with MVP and beat MVP in their 2007 Armageddon match but did not take MVP's United States title because he won the match via count out.
On February 14, 2008 Smackdown announced that Mysterio had suffered a bicep injury on an overseas tour. On February 22nd Rey announced that he would have to take around 6 months away from wrestling as his injury will require surgery.
In June of 2008 Mysterio was drafted to Raw during the 2008 WWE draft. Rey gave the Smackdown fans a good-bye and thank you speach on the June 27, 2008 edition of Smackdown. On the June 30 edition of Raw Mysterio came to make an announcement to all the Raw fans which led to a minor fight Santino Marella. Mysterio made his Raw in-ring debut the next week, pinning Marella after hitting his signature 619 move.
On the August 11, 2008 edition of Raw Kane incinuated that Mysterio had died, pulling a luchador mask out of his burlap sack after weeks of claiming that what was in the sack had died. This of course is all kayfabe.
On September 7, 2008 Mysterio competed in the Raw scramble match at Unforgiven. The match was for the World Heavyweight Championship and featured Rey, CM Punk, Batista, JBL and Kane. Unfortunately for the then World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, he could not compete at the last minute because of a backstage attack by Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase. This led to Punk being replaced in the match by Chris Jericho. Jericho ended up winning the match and became the new World Heavyweight Champion that night.
On October 5, 2008 at No Mercy Mysterio's rivalry with Kane continued as the two squared off in a match. Mysterio won the match after Kane got disqualified for using a chair in the match.
Three weeks later Mysterio and Kane would meet again at Cyber Sunday in a No Holds Barred match in which Mysterio was able to win via pinfall after a successful 619 and springboard splash off the ropes onto Kane. The next day on Raw though after Rey had a successful match against Evan Bourne; Mysterio was attacked by Kane. Bourne tried to help Mysterio but Mark Henry also came in to attack Bourne. Mysterio suffered a hard choke slam by Kane to end the attack.
Mysterio and Kane would meet again at Survivor Series but this team it wasn't one on one. Mysterio was part of Team HBK. Joining Michaels and Mysterio were the great Khali and Kryme Tyme. Kane was part of Team JBL which had Kane, MVP, Miz, Johnn Morrison and of course JBL. During the match Mysterio and Khali double teamed on Kane to eliminate him from the match. At the end, team HBK had won the match.
Myterio would compete in Raws Elimination Chambers match on February 15, 2009 at No Way Out for the World Heavyweight Championship. After Kane, John Cena, Mike Knox and Chris Jericho had been eliminated, it came down to Mysterio and Edge. Edge was able to surprise Mysterio with a Spear and win the Eliminations Chambers match and the World Heavyweight title.
On April 5th, 2009 at Wrestlemania 25, Mysterio battled for the Intercontinental Championship against JBL. Mysterio was abole to surprise JBL and end the match quickly as he knocked JBL down, hit the 619 and then did a splash to get the cover and become the new IC Champion. With this win, it signified the end of JBL's in ring performance. JBL said that if Eddie Guerrero could not be there for his last match, then he wanted his last match to be against Rey Mysterio.
Mysterio was drafted to SmackDown during the 2009 WWE Draft on the April 13 episode of Raw, in the process making the Intercontinental Championship exclusive to SmackDown.
On May 17, 2009 at Judgment Day, Mysterio would successfully defend his Intercontinental Championship Title against Chris Jericho after hitting the 619 and hitting a springboard off the top ropes.
On June 7, 2009 at Extreme Rules Chris Jericho would get another shot at Mysterio and his IC title. The match was a No Hold Bars Match. Mysterio was able to trip Jericho into the set up chair in the ring and eventually went for a 619. Jericho avoided the 619 and instead ripped off Rey's mask. The unmasking of Mysterio took him by surprise, and Jericho scored a pinfall to win the match and take the Intercontinental title from Mysterio.
Mysterio and Jericho were booked in a Title vs. Mask match at WWE The Bash, in which Mysterio was victorious to regain the Intercontinental Championship.
Rey then began feuding with Dolph Ziggler, in which he defeated Ziggler at WWE Night Of Champions. The feud between these two continued up to Summerslam on August 23, 2009 as Mysterio defended his Intercontinental belt. In that match Mysterio was able to do a spin move followed by the Hurricanrana onto Ziggler from the top rope and get the pinfall victory to defend his title.
On the September 4, 2009 edition of Smackdown Rey would lose his Intercontinental Championship to John Morrison after Morrison hit his Starship Pain move and then got the pinfall.
